You Are Stronger Than You Know: Healing is Not Linear

There was a time when she didn’t recognize herself in the mirror.

Her smile was small.

Her eyes carried stories they were too tired to tell.

Her body flinched at sudden sounds, loud voices, or the weight of silence.

She had survived things people didn’t see.

Things people didn’t ask about.

And truth be told — she didn’t always know how to talk about them either. This is the part of healing people don’t post about.

The days when it hurts to get out of bed.

The moments when triggers come out of nowhere.

The hours spent wondering if she’s “too broken” ever to be whole again.

But healing doesn’t look like perfection.

It looks like breathing through the hard moments.

It looks like asking for help.

It looks like choosing to stay — even when leaving feels easier.

Tools for the Journey:

If you are walking through the aftermath of abuse or trauma, here are reminders for your heart:

  • Your story is sacred — you do not have to rush your healing.

  • Ground yourself: Try 5-4-3-2-1 — name 5 things you see, 4 you can touch, 3 you hear, 2 you smell, 1 you taste.

  • Speak life over yourself: "I am not what happened to me. I am becoming who I am called to be."

  • Find a safe community — healing happens in connection, not isolation.

  • Rest is resistance. Rest is survival. Rest is holy.

Faith Reflection:

Psalm 34:18 says,

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

God sees every tear you’ve cried behind closed doors.

He holds your story with tenderness.

You are not forgotten. You are not invisible.

You are stronger than you know.

Closing Encouragement:

Healing won’t always look pretty.

But you will look back one day and see how far you’ve come.

Every small step counts.

Every boundary set matters.

Every breath you take is proof:

You are stronger than you know.
